Whether you’re celebrating an important milestone or simply spending a relaxing evening with friends, there are many occasions at which to enjoy a cigar. In fact, Father’s Day this month brings to mind the age-old tradition of handing out cigars after a baby is born—a practice thought to have originated either with the Native Americans, or simply as a way for dads to honor their little one.
While that practice has mostly gone the way of black-and-white sitcoms, for many, cigar culture is still popular—and even millennials are said to be getting in on the action. And though there are much stricter smoking regulations these days, there are still a variety of places for cigar lovers to find a light.
One of those: at a cigar lounge. In particular, there are a number of hotels around the world that offer sophisticated, well-designed cigar lounges with a variety of amenities—from storage cabinets for regulars to creative cocktails. Here are a few to consider as you plan your next trip:
Rocco Forte Hotel de Rome, Berlin
When you’re ready to unwind with amazing views of some of Berlin’s most historic sites, head to the lounge at the Hotel de Rome. From that vantage point, cigar aficionados will be able to take in the Bebelplatz and its adjacent buildings—an UNESCO World Heritage site—as well as the Berlin State Opera. The lounge offers cigars such as Cohibas, Montecristos and Romeo y Julietas—as well as, of course, specially-paired whiskeys in a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Palacio Duhau – Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires
Looking to enjoy a great cocktail with your cigar? Visit The Oak Room at the Palacio Duhau – Park Hyatt Buenos Aires in the Recoleta neighborhood of the city. There, you’ll find a robust drink menu filled with everything from specially-crafted cocktails to Argentinian favorites to Scotch whiskeys and cognacs. The bar, which features antique oak paneling and leather chairs, has an outdoor terrace as well.
The Peninsula, Paris
If you’re a frequent guest at Le Lounge Kleber at this Paris hotel—located close to the Arc de Triomphe—you’ll receive access to their storage cabinets for your cigars. The beautifully-styled lounge features two restored painting on the ceiling and offers the opportunity to enjoy a cigar and drinks.
Corinthia Hotel, London
There are over 160 different Cuban cigar offerings to enjoy at the Garden Lounge in London’s Corinthia Hotel, including selections from Cohiba, Partagas, Cuaba, Cuban Davidoff, and more. While at the outdoor Garden Lounge, you can also relax with a whiskey or other drink, as well order from their menu, which features sandwiches, salads, soups, and other specialties. Plus, you’ll be having your cigar in grand tradition: Both King Edward VII and Winston Churchill are said to have frequented the site in the building’s past incarnations.
