Happy August! Now that summer is winding down, we’re thinking about back-to-school—and specifically, to college. This month, we’re talking about a new trend we’ve been seeing lately: Families taking special trips with their college-bound kids. And speaking of bonding travel, we’re also highlighting our recent retreat in Puerto Rico—including our top hosting tips. And finally, rounding out this edition is a great Q&A with Qatar Airways, which was recently honored with the distinction of “World’s Best Airline.” We hope the rest of your summer is fun and relaxing!

Fans of Soho’s Crosby Street Hotel will be thrilled with the opening of The Whitby, its new ‘sister’ in Midtown. We were among the first to see the British-based boutique hotel on W. 56th Street last week.
Once again designer Kit Kemp’s inimitable style is on display everywhere. Eye-catching and eclectic fabrics, colors, and textures rule. Attention to detail is everywhere from her specially commissioned “Friendly Flowers” curtains in the Orangerie to the colorful thread-loom installation on the lobby ceiling.
The hotel features 86 individually appointed rooms and suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows, many with private terraces. A dedicated events floor incudes a 130-seat state-of-the-art cinema.
Guests have the exclusive use of a beautiful drawing room off the lobby. A dedicated butler adds to the posh experience. There’s even an honest bar for guests to serve themselves.
Also off the lobby is the bright and airy Whitby Bar and Restaurant, which will feature modern American fare.
